Kudos to Ms. Kervina’s English Classes!!! Students in Ms. Kervina’s 3rd and 6th period classes produced book trailers on Windows Movie Maker (a Windows Utility on all of our computers), and they are fantastic!!!! These individual student projects are works of art and will entice you into each book… we hope to have some of these book trailers – and books – displayed soon!! CONGRATULATIONS on the final products of this unique project.

NEWSFLASH: UNintentional instances of plagiarism are just as serious as INTENTIONAL instances. Plagiarism is a serious offense. If you want to make sure you are not plagiarizing, take a look at the “AVOID PLAGIARISM” tab on the Media Center blackboard course. YOU are definitely enrolled in it. (The new plagiarism powerpoint is on the staff drive under “Librarians>Instruction” for teachers who would like to see or use it.)

Historical Fiction January 18, 2010

I have been reading some historical fiction – most of the books take place in medieval England or Europe. I haven’t really enjoyed medieval literature before, but the new fiction in this genre is great! These are some YA books I recommend: The Last Light of the Sun by Kay, Ophelia by Lisa Klein, The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. Do you like historical fiction? Which periods? What books?
Ophelia and The Thief are quick reads. Let me know if you like them.

Going Bovine
by Libba Bray
Sixteen year old slacker, Cameron, sets off on a madcap road trip along with a punk angel, a dwarf sidekick, a yard gnome and a mad scientist, to save the world and perhaps his own life. This wildly imaginative modern day take on Don Quixote is complex, hilarious and stunning. The hero’s journey will never be the same after “Going Bovine.”
